ABOUT THE SERIES

Disney Junior’s Mira, Royal Detective is an animated mystery inspired by India’s rich and diverse culture. It tells the story of Mira, Disney Junior’s first South Asian protagonist, who begins the series as a commoner, but is appointed to the role of royal detective after solving the mystery that saves the Prince of Jalpur. On a journey to help royals and commoners alike, Mira and her friends travel throughout the magical kingdom authentically illustrating Indian customs and traditions.

Whether showcasing India’s vibrant fashion, melodious music, diverse architecture, or aromatic food, the Mira, Royal Detective team consulted with experts across all parts of production to ensure their portrayal was as authentic as possible. The beautiful music and dance depicted on the series showcases India’s diversity by featuring folk music, classical dances inspired by Bollywood, along with original patriotic musical instruments, such as the tabla, dhol, and sitar.

Mira, Royal Detective proudly highlights a talented South Asian cast, including Freida Pinto, Kal Penn, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Hannah Simone, Jameela Jamil, Aparna Nancherla, Aasif Mandvi, Sonal Shah, Parvesh Cheena,  Zakir Hussain, and Leela Ladnier as the voice of Mira.

Among the show’s milestones are the inclusion of holiday-themed episodes centered around Holi and Diwali, and an Eid al-Fitr episode featuring cast Rizwan Manji, Ayana Manji, Zehra Fazal and Kausar Mohammed.

Mira, Royal Detective touches the hearts of children and adults alike. Alongside the colorful adventures, Mira also challenges audiences to use deductive reasoning, critical thinking, and other trivial games to solve investigative mysteries as a way to reel in the attention of all ages.

Mira, Royal Detective inspires children to learn about a culture that is different from their own and that our diversity should be celebrated. Additionally, the animated series shows young South Asian children that it is possible to see themselves represented on television.

We were conscious that this will be the first time kids will see themselves on TV celebrating a holiday that they actually celebrate. For kids who don’t, this will be their first exposure.
